A content inventory outlines all the types of content throughout a website and where it's located.

It's similar to a site map but provides a greater amount of detail and allows you to see where important content might be buried or what can be removed.

Creating a content inventory can be a great help in the early stages of redesigning a website to help inform a new architecture and to ensure all types of content can be properly accommodated.
